Every year BESTMALZ hosts one of the world’s best brewing competitions, their Best Brew Challenge. 2023’s offering tasks brewers around the world on both a hobbyist and professional level to all brew beer simultaneously using BESTMALZ chosen grain bill. The brew days this year will take place between 20th-23rd April and this year’s chosen beer style is Dark Doppelbock.
Dark Doppelbock a beer style characterized by a strong, not too sweet and malty character as well as a full body. Hop flavor and bitterness are rather low. The beer color is typically between light brown and black. One of the challenge’s conditions is the use of BEST Black Malt Extra, though participants are free to also use other BEST roasted malts in their grain bill. Also worth noting is that the final brew must also be brewed in compliance with the German purity law.
To take part in the competition, brewers must register on the Brew Challenge website by April 19th and subsequent to finishing the brew, they must send a completed documentation sheet together with at least three litres of their beer to BESTMALZ Heidelberg to be judged by a jury of beer sommeliers. The closing date for shipping competition beers is July 5, 2023
The winning beer will be brewed and serverd at the Drinktec 2023 fair in Munich. The winner will also be invited to participate (max. 2 persons, incl. travel & accommodation expenses)

Places 1 to 3: Professional beer analysis.
