Every year BESTMALZ hosts one of the world’s best brewing competitions, their Best Brew Challenge. 2022’s offering tasks brewers around the world on both a hobbyist and professional level to all brew beer simultaneously using BESTMALZ chosen grain bill. The simultaneous brew will take place on the 25th of March and this year’s chosen beer style is Altbier. BESTMALZ chose Altbier as Stylistically it delights not only fans in Germany, but also has an excellent international reputation. Rustic, Malty and Tart, these are the tenets of a perfect Altbier. It isn’t only normal barley malt that goes into the brew. Special and roasted malts give this style its special flavour profile. The grain bill is often a well-kept secret but one of the challenge’s conditions is the use of BESTMALZ Best Chocolate malt. This roasted malt gives the beer a darker colour and a sumptuous chocolate aroma.





To take part in the competition, brewers must register on the Brew Challenge website by March 24th and subsequent to finishing the brew, they must send a completed documentation sheet together with at least three litres of their beer to BESTMALZ Heidelberg to be judged by a jury of beer sommeliers on June 1st.

The winning beer will be brewed and served at the Drinktec 2022 fair in Munich. The winning brewer will also be invited to participate (max. 2 persons, incl. travel & accommodation expenses). Additional prizes are as follows:
