Next month marks the 10-year anniversary of Good Beer Week & we’re pumped to drink good beer with you all!
The Cryer Malt Trade Hub (upstairs at Beer Deluxe, Federation Square) has been a staple in the Good Beer Week program for yesteryear and we’re back in 2021, along with our supply partner, Yakima Chief Hops®, to provide GBW attendees with a wide range of industry seminars and discussions.
From beer sensory sessions to start-up panels, we invite you to come along to taste a few delicious brews, make some new mates and broaden your knowledge of our amazing industry.
We’ve picked out our top presentations below but if you’re keen to check out the full Trade Hub program, you can see it on Good Beer Week’s website HERE.
Trade Hub
Start Up Brewery Panel
For the past six years, we’ve teamed up with our mates at The Crafty Pint to deliver a series of Brewery Startup Panels at major events across Australia. And we’re back at the Cryer Malt Trade Hub on Friday 21st May at 11:30am – 1:00pm.
As we have ridden the rollercoaster of the last 12 months, it appears that reliable advice on how to overcome the challenges which face brewery startups today is now more important than ever. Attendees will get to hear from a panel made up of professionals whose expertise spans across the beer industry, from established brewers to ingredient suppliers to those working in branding and marketing.
THE PANEL
- Jon Burridge – Cryer Malt / Yakima Chief Hops
- Ben Carwyn – Carwyn Cellars
- Mazen Hajjar – Hawkers Beer
- Dan Hall – Tallboy & Moose
- Jessie Jungalwalla – Craft Instinct

Hop Sensory Session
Join James Monshing, ANZ Sales Manager at Yakima Chief Hops®, and Cryer Malt’s Jon Burridge as they present a Hop Sensory Session on Tuesday 18 May 11:30am.
Prepare to roll up your sleeves and get messy as they take you through Pacific Northwest Hop aroma profiles and how they translate in the finished beer (beer tastings will be provided – win-win).
Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about methods for evaluating certain hop varieties in their own brews, as well as understanding the values on COA’s and the meaning of oil breakdown and how it affects the brewing process.
This session is beneficial for brewers of all walks of life so make sure to pencil it in the schedule.
Pacific Northwest Hop Crop Outlook & Hop Contracting
As we navigate these unprecedented times alongside our brewing partners and hop growers, the importance and value of hop contracting have never been more apparent.
Join James Monshing, ANZ Sales Manager at Yakima Chief Hops®, and Jon Burridge, Hop Specialist at Cryer Malt on Thursday 20th May at 12:30pm as they run through the acreage of the Pacific Northwest hop varieties and the importance of contracting in ensuring a healthy supply chain.
They will break down the hop contracting process and how it benefits both the supplier and their brewing partners. Don’t miss it.

Hop Rally with Tallboy and Moose
We have teamed up with Tallboy & Moose, the Merri Mashers Homebrew Club, Yakima Chief Hops® and White Labs Yeast to put on the ultimate IPA hop race. Six brewers have taken the same base IPA wort and hopped the crap out of it, each with unique hop varietals and hop products: We’re talking Cryo Hops®, distilled hop extract and T-90 pellets.
On show in each beer will be HBC586, Talus™, Ekuanot®, Cryo Loral®, Cryo® Azacca® and CTZ extract. They will be mega hoppy, that’s for sure!
Freewheeler: BentSpoke x YCH EXP Collab Launch
Join our mates at Yakima Chief Hops® & BentSpoke Brewing as they launch the first-ever EXP collab series in Australia.
BentSpoke and Yakima Chief Hops® have selected experimental hop varieties to create a not to be missed beer that will launch exclusively at Good Beer Week!
Come on down to the Prince Alfred in Port Melbourne to be the first in Australia to try the beer, meet the Yakima Chief Hops® team, hear from the brewer and hop grower and walk away with some exclusive collab merch.
